Midtown’s Many Lovers - Leading us into the Future Lightboxes in Darby Street, Auckland Central
These four light boxes shine a light on the make-up of contemporary Tāmaki Makaurau and those who call it home. This city of many lovers is loved by many, including a rich mix of people who contribute to our collective sense of identity through their cultural output and creative endeavours. The fifteen artworks hosted here reflect the nature of our midtown communities and the stories of the artists who have contributed to this project, stories that reflect us all.
As part of understanding who lives, works and plays in the precinct Barbara commissioned a series of art lightboxes to host the work of the city's creative community. In a complex year, amongst a series of complex years, her objective was to understand what we could learn from young creatives of Tāmaki Makaurau.
She reached out to artists from some of the many groups she works with; Asian, Queer, African and Māori/Moana and asked them to invite 15 artists, designers and photographers to express their innate ideas and current thinking through images and text. Project Manager Ross Liew collated the artworks and the reflections of the artists, naming the collection Midtown’s Many Lovers.
All My Friends were lucky to be involved in this project with Kevin Shen (@ ) leading the curation of one of the light boxes featuring four artists of Asian descent. Special thanks to our artists.
